How to save
energy at Home?
Refrigeration
1. Defrosting periodically will help you save energy and money.
2. Open
the refrigerator only when necessary and for the shortest
amount of time possible, this way you'll avoid loss
of cold air from inside.
3. Keep
the freezer as full as possible. Frozen food help
to keep the cold. If necessary, fill some recipients
with water, close them and put them in the freezer.
4. Do
not insert warm food in the freezer.
5. Keep
the back side of the refrigerator clean. Dust accumulation
reduces the performance and increases power consumption.
Laundry and
Ironing
6. Wash
at full load and with cold water.
7. Prefer
doing the laundry and ironing during lower energy
demand time, wich is, during the morning.
8. If you're going to use washing machines, dryers or automatic dishwashers, use full load and, once you finish the use, always clean the filters of the devices you use, specially in the case of vacuum cleaners and dryers.
Lighting
and Electronic Equipment
9. Maximize
the use of natural daylight. Also, avoid turn lights
on during the day and turn off the lights that you're
not using.
10. Replace
your traditional light bulbs (incandescent) for the
energy savers bulbs. Start by those that you use more
time.
11. Between
15% and 20% of energy saving can be achieved by turning
off and unplugging the electronic equipment that you
don't use regularly (DVD, Video Game Consoles, etc).
12. Install
nysSaver
on your computer to manage the energetic consumption
of it.
