How to save energy at Home?

Refrigeration

1. Defrosting periodically will help you save energy and money.

2. Open the refrigerator only when necessary and for the shortest amount of time possible, this way you'll avoid loss of cold air from inside.

3. Keep the freezer as full as possible. Frozen food help to keep the cold. If necessary, fill some recipients with water, close them and put them in the freezer.

4. Do not insert warm food in the freezer.

5. Keep the back side of the refrigerator clean. Dust accumulation reduces the performance and increases power consumption.

Laundry and Ironing

6. Wash at full load and with cold water.

7. Prefer doing the laundry and ironing during lower energy demand time, wich is, during the morning.

8. If you're going to use washing machines, dryers or automatic dishwashers, use full load and, once you finish the use, always clean the filters of the devices you use, specially in the case of vacuum cleaners and dryers.

Lighting and Electronic Equipment

9. Maximize the use of natural daylight. Also, avoid turn lights on during the day and turn off the lights that you're not using.

10. Replace your traditional light bulbs (incandescent) for the energy savers bulbs. Start by those that you use more time.

11. Between 15% and 20% of energy saving can be achieved by turning off and unplugging the electronic equipment that you don't use regularly (DVD, Video Game Consoles, etc).
